The company Sanrio creates and sells goods of many popular characters including Hello Kitty and My Melody. Sanrio has gathered all 100 characters to participate in the popularity contest termed the “Sanrio Character Ranking,” a popular project that has been held every year since 1986. Fans can vote for their favorite Sanrio character until July 7.
When the voting commenced in May, popular characters rode in decorated vehicles while giving speeches to the pedestrians of Shibuya and Shinjuku, Tokyo, and a battle with the characters’ mutual pride hanging in the balance was already heating up.
As of a mid-poll update on June 28, My Melody was in first place, followed by Hello Kitty and Pom Pom Purin. Fans can vote via the Sanrio Character Ranking official site or via a ballot obtainable from Sanrio Puroland, a theme park in Tama New Town, Tokyo.
The results of the ranking will be announced at Sanrio Puroland on July 20. Support you favorite character to have their dreamy manifesto be carried out!
