The Flowers of Evil is a one-season anime that started broadcasting in April, and it is gathering attention with its four different opening themes. These songs are chosen in accordance with the contents of each episode.
In the episode that aired on May 19, the last of these songs, “The Flowers of Evil - Saeki Nanako”, sung by Shiho Nanba, was finally used. The music is performed by Uchujin with lyrics and composition by Asako Shinosaki and arrangement by Tomoki Hasegawa. Shiho Nanba is a young vocalist born in 1993. She debuted with “Hajimemashite, Watashi” in November 2011. A distinctive characteristic of hers is the transparency in her voice, which she also puts to use in this song.
Although The Flowers of Evil has four different openings, all of them are produced by Asako Shinosaki, who also supplies the vocals, and performed by Uchujin. Due to having the same producer, the songs have a sense of unity, and each feature a different vocalist. Three themes - “The Flowers of Evil - Sawa Nakamura” (vocals: Mariko Goto), “The Flowers of Evil - Takao Kasuga” (vocals: Noko), and “The Flowers of Evil - Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture” (artist: Uchujin) were previously broadcast. All versions are themed around characters and scenes appearing in the anime, and the viewers can enjoy a different taste in all of them.
It has also been decided that a CD with all four versions, a concept EP called Aku no Kafu (lit. The Flower Album of Evil), will be released on June 26. The CD will feature all four openings of the anime, plus the full version of the ending theme, “Hana -a Last Flower-” by Asa Chang & Junray. At the time of the release, an event will be held in select stores, whereat “another jacket” will be distributed to the first purchasers of Aku no Kafu. Moreover, the design of the bonus jacket will be different for Tower Records, HMV, Village Vanguard, Disk Union, and other retail chains.
In addition, on May 22, the four opening themes of The Flowers of Evil were released as the newest single CD by Uchujin. On this CD, Asako Shinosaki sings all four opening themes, which are arranged into a musical suite.
