It has been announced that popular CanCam model Mizuki Yamamoto will be playing the part of Lin, the maid of the Phantomhive household, in the live-action film adaptation of the popular comic Black Butler. The film is scheduled to release early next year.
Yamamoto, who won the first Grand Prix at the “Tokyo Super Model Contest,” is a popular model who is active as a model for CanCam. In 2011, she began her activities as an actress. In 2012, she stared in director Daihachi Yoshida’s film Kirishima, Bukatsu Yamerutteyo, which garnered her even more attention. In addition to Yamamoto’s lovely looks, she has an unexpected side to her; she herself says she is an otaku, and she has shared her room filled with manga and figures on TV variety shows.
Cast members previously announced for this film include Hiro Mizushima as the butler Sebastian Michaelis and Ayame Goriki as the crossdressing Shiori Genpo. The film is already picking up attention even though it was only recently announced. Yamamoto’s character Lin is a scatterbrained klutz who tries her hardest at her job. In addition to Yamamoto wearing a maid outfit for the first time for this role, she is also challenging herself with action scenes for the first time.
Being a big fan of Yana Toboso’s original work Black Butler, Yamamoto had this to say about being appointed to the role: “I have been a fan of the original work for so long, so I was really happy when I got the offer. Lin always tries her best and is innocent and has a strong faithfulness. I think she is a girl who loves everyone. I also feel like she is a bit like me in that we always try our best. I am also trying action scenes for the first time. At first, I was nervous and couldn’t even do a backflip. However, during the action scenes, I was taught by everyone, ‘Enjoy yourself when it’s time to have fun! Be serious when it’s time to be serious!’ so I tried my best and was able to overcome it. I hope those who see this film will think, ‘Lin is cool!!’”
Original author Toboso also shared his thoughts on Yamamoto’s role for the film: “I saw her last year in Kirishima, Bukatsu Yamerutteyo, but when I saw her in the visual for this movie, which is a completely different role than her last, I didn’t recognize her at all. Continuing from Goriki, [Yamamoto] too plays an original character for the film. It’s just my opinion, but ‘Cute people are cute no matter what they do!’ So I’m expecting this lovely maid to cause a huge uproar.”
Mizuki Yamamoto is a woman of many facets; she is a model, and actress, and an otaku. We can’t wait to see how she will play a maid.
