009: USA Edition, which is gathering attention as being the American graphic novel adaptation of Shotaro Ishinomori’s science-fiction masterpiece, will be released on July 19 by the American publisher Archaia. Bradley Cramp and F.J. DeSanto, who are highly regarded for their achievements in the world of American comics, are responsible for the script and Marcus To is drawing the pictures, reconstructing Shotaro Ishinomori’s original manga.

Although it is an American graphic novel adaptation, there are plans for publishing a Japanese translation soon. Shogakukan Shueisha Production (ShoPro), an agency known for publishing Japanese translations of American and Franco-Belgian comics, is doing the translation, which will be released on the same day as the US version: July 19. It is very rare for an American comic to be released at the same time in America and Japan.

Pre-orders for the Japanese version have started more than two months prior to its release. It was also revealed that the Japanese title would be Cyborg 009: USA Edition.

Furthermore, the front cover image was released, revealing new 00 Cyborgs who have a different image than their previous counterparts. Cyborg 009 has witnessed many changes since its creation, including anime adaptations, but it will be very interesting to see how it will be reinterpreted overseas. Wallpapers and headers based on this cover image are planned to be distributed. The details will be announced hereafter on the official website, Twitter, and Facebook.

Also, there is a reason that the start of accepting pre-orders was set to May 16, that is, it is the birthday of 009, aka Shimamura Joe. Furthermore, the release date, July 19, matches up with the “Day of Cyborg 009,” when the original manga started serialization in 1964.

Since this year would have marked Ishinomori’s 75th birthday, many other commemorative projects are planned. Starting on July 13 at the Ishinomori Manga Museum, the “Cyborg 009 Exhibition” (temporary name) will be held.

The franchise showed quite an uprush with the movie 009 Re:Cyborg in 2012, and it seems it will continue to gather attention this year as well.
