On May 31, The Garden of Words, the newest animated film by director Makoto Shinkai, was released in theaters in Japan. Also screening with the movie is a short anime by Shinkai called “Dareka no Manazashi.” The anime is roughly six minutes and 40 seconds in length and includes the themes “future” and “family bonds.” Its screening with the movie is the first time it has been shown since it premiered at an event back in February.
“Dareka no Manazashi” was produced as a collaboration between Nomura Real Estate Development’s Proud. The event held in February at which the anime was screened was Nomura Real Estate Group’s “Proud Box Thanksgiving Event.” At the event, a trailer and music video were shown, but fans were eager for a screening other than that. In response to fans’ demands, a surprise screening was held.
A music video that uses footage from “Dareka no Manazashi” was included in the first press edition of the mini album Sore de Iiyo released on April 17 by the artist Kazusa, who sang the theme song to the short anime. Because the music video uses a different composition than that of the anime, fans can check out these differences by seeing the anime in theaters. The short version of the music video has been distributed to various video sites and it has become popular, breaking through 300,000 total views. Furthermore, the mini album made it onto Amazon’s hit music ranking, and it continues to sell by word of mouth.
“Words,” the new song by singer Motohiro Hata, who also sung the theme song to The Garden of Words, will also include footage from the movie. The video features newly added cuts of the movie that can’t be seen anywhere else. This video can only be seen on a Blu-ray awarded through a raffle to 528 people who buy the new single CD for “Words,” which was released on May 29.
