The project she thought had stopped had been continuing. ― Using “sisters” as a means of creating a Level 6 esper. Being greatly shocked after finding out the particulars of the “experiment,” Mikoto heads to the test site, where an extremely gruesome sight awaits her: the sight of Misaka being slaughtered. Enraged, Mikoto attacks the “white figure” standing at the scene. However, her most powerful attack is simply reflected back at her. That white figure is the No. 1 esper in Academy City who can freely manipulate all vectors: Accelerator.
(from the official episode guide)
Mikoto witnesses the painful death of her clone. She then loses control of herself, and, in a fit of rage, faces the person responsible head on. However, her enemy is Academy City’s No. 1 esper: Accelerator! Mikoto launches her most powerful attacks at him one after another, but he is completely undaunted and displays his overwhelming power.
Before the battle can escalate further, it is stopped by a crown of clones who explain to Accelerator the dangers of carrying on with the battle. After Accelerator and the clones leave, Mikoto feels something that she has never experienced before: a sense of defeat. She is then confronted with the reality that her clones were only created to be killed by Accelerator as part of the Level 6 Shift Project.
Due to so much happening in such a short time, Mikoto seems to be reaching her breaking point. With the day over, she returns as always to where her friends are gathered. However, even while talking to them, she is absent-minded. Everyone is worried about Mikoto, but she won’t let them in on what is going on and she won’t ask for their help. Without answering them, she determines what she must do.
Because they are so dear to her, she can’t include them. For that reason, she decides to not tell them anything and shoulder the burden herself. What will happen from here on as Mikoto faces her most powerful opponent yet? Look forward to the next episode!
