Anime Adaptation Finally Announced for Hugely Popular Baseball Manga “Ace of Diamond”

A high school baseball manga that has sold more than 15 million individual volumes is finally becoming an anime. On May 10, the anime adaptation of Yuji Terashima’s manga Ace of Diamond, which is currently serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine, was announced. However, particulars on the anime, such as staff, cast, and broadcast channels, are still unknown. Since the anime is still more than six months away, we will be sure to keep you posted on the latest developments.

Ace of Diamond began serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2006. Centering on high school baseball, the story depicts the maturity of a group of high school boys. In 2007, the work won a Shogakukan Manga Award in the shonen category, and in 2010, it won a Kodansha Manga Award in the same category. Such high acknowledgement is also testament to its great popularity. Suffice it to say, the anime is highly anticipated and will be the definitive sports anime of 2013.

The series’ main character is Sawamura Eijun. When he meets catcher Miyuki Kazuya, he begins a path down a new chapter in his life. In order to test his strength, he separates from his friends and knocks on the door of the prestigious baseball school Seido.
