On June 22, the first chapter in the Ghost in the Shell prequel story Ghost in the Shell: Arise, titled Ghost in the Shell: Arise Border 1: Ghost Pain, will begin screening in theaters in Japan. The highlight of this film is the depiction of Kusanagi Motoko and Batou before the establishment of Section 9.
The story will reference the as of yet undiscussed creation of Section 9 and Motoko’s past. It’s shaping up to be a film that fans will not want to miss.
It has been revealed that Motoko will appear in the film belonging to the 501 Organization. However, what kind of organization this is is still unknown.
Prior to screening events, a short video discussing the secrets of the 501 Organization has been released online. This special video is called “Decode 501 File.” In the video, the 501 Organization is explained by the head of the organization herself, Kurtz, who is also Motoko’s protector. Seeing the video is making fans even more excited for the film’s release in June.
Ghost in the Shell: Arise is based on Masamune Shirow’s popular sci-fi manga Ghost in the Shell. Kazuchika Kise is the film’s director and character designer and Tow Ubukata is the film’s composer and writer.
