Famous Japanese figure artist Takayuki Takeya will hold an exhibition for the first time in 13 years at 3331 Arts Chiyoda in Akihabara, Tokyo beginning on June 1. The name of the exhibit is “Takayuki Takeya Works.”
On display will be Takeya’s well-known figures including the 80 figures which were used for his collection book Ryoshi no Kakudo (The Hunter’s Angle) that was published on April 23 by Kodansha, rough drawings and sketches used for his creations, and notes. Also, a documentary film which shows his creation process will be screened. Limited edition figures will be featured as a bonus for purchasers of advance tickets, and the figures will also be available for purchase only at the exhibit.
Takayuki Takeya was born in Hokkaido in 1963 and is the son of a fisherman. For five years beginning in 1994, his original work Ryoshi no Kakudo was serialized in the model and hobby magazine S.M.H. His first collection book Takayuki Takeya Works: Ryoshi no Kakudo was published by Hobby Japan in 1999. An exhibition of his work was held at Parco, Shibuya in 2000. He handled the design of models for Kamen Rider and Final Fantasy, the art design for the movie Garo, and the creation of the model of Kyoshinhei (Giant God Warrior) for the short anime Kyoshinhei Tokyo ni Arawaru directed by Hideaki Anno. Since last year, he has been creating the Buddhist statue collection “Revoltech Takeya” (manufacturer: Kaiyodo) and making fully mobile Buddhas, which has garnered him attention. Being a huge fan of Takeya, the president of Nike, Mark Parker, once visited Takeya’s house in pursuit of his works. He has many fans overseas as well as in Japan.
