“Girls und Panzer” Film to Release in 2014!

On April 28, a film adaptation of the popular anime Girls und Panzer was announced at an event for the series! The film will be a completely new story and sequel to the popular TV anime series. Tsutomu Mizushima, the director of the TV anime, will be taking up his role as director once again for the movie.

The film was announced at the “Heartwarming Tank Carnival” event held at Differ Ariake in Tokyo. The film is planned to release in 2014.

Girls und Panzer is a slice of life anime about girls who operate tanks and attend a military school in Oarai, Ibaraki, Japan. The anime was broadcast in 2012 and became greatly popular for its cute female characters and emphasis on the many tanks that appeared in the anime. The town of Oarai in the Ibaragi Prefecture is the setting for the anime, and town renewal events as well as events supporting the town’s school that appears in the anime have been held. Aside from being used in the story, the anime has had a big impact on the area. Oarai has become a sacred place in relation to Girls und Panzer and has stirred many fans to visit.
