Academy City is a sprawling metropolis with over 1.8 million students where espers develop their powers. The city is protected by the teacher-run police force Anti-Skill and the student-run force Judgement. Once again, a group of delinquent students picks on a helpless girl in one of the city’s back alleyways. However, the delinquents are defeated by a single arc of lightning. The name of the person standing haughtily over the delinquents who are all paralyzed on the ground is Misaka Mikoto. Mikoto is the third ranked Level 5 esper in Academy City, of which there are only seven. Due to her ability, Mikoto is nicknamed “Railgun.”
Also at the scene are Shirai Kuroko, Uiharu Kazari, and Saten Ruiko. The curtain opens once again on these four students’ everyday lives.

After three years, A Certain Scientific Railgun returns to TV! Right off the bat, we get to see the Railgun’s power. Speaking of the Railgun, viewers probably remember her banter between her friends and the refreshing battle scenes from the first season. Fans will be happy to know that the mood of the first season returns completely intact in season two. In addition to the familiar characters making appearances in episode 1, a new esper is introduced. We get the feeling that an intense battle with her will unfold in the episodes to come! In the second half of the episode, Mikoto faces off full throttle against a terrorist group and Kuroko backs her up. The scene features exhilarating and speedy combat with Mikoto displaying her impressive powers, and it ends in a breathtaking cooperative attack between Mikoto and Kuroko that you have to see to believe.
