Stamps Based on “Doraemon” Movies and Anime to be Released!

Japan Post will be releasing Doraemon stamps on June 4. The stamps are a collaboration with The Association of Japanese Animations and the 20th stamp collection of the “Anime Hero/Heroine Series.”

Many popular characters have been part of the series, but this time the world-famous Doraemon is being featured. The series began with Pokémon stamps. Since then, Mobile Suit Gundam, Sgt. Frog, and many other popular series have been chosen to become part of the series.

The Doraemon TV anime is about the 22nd century robot cat Doraemon who travels back in time via a time machine, and it depicts his adventures with the young boy his meets named Nobi Nobita. Many anime films for the series have also been created. Currently, the 34th film Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Secret Gadget Museum is a huge hit in theaters and has brought the series’ cumulative total amount of attendees to over 100 million. In fact, the Doraemon series has even surpassed the records set by the Godzilla series.

Doraemon is also popular overseas, especially in China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and other Asian countries. Though, it most popular within Japan. This Doraemon stamp collection features the familiar characters Doraemon, Nobi Nobita, Suneo, Gian, Shizuka, and Dorami. There will be 1.5 million collections issued, and they will be available at post offices throughout Japan.
