“The Fool” - New Project by Director Shoji Kawamori of “Macross” Fame Begins

On March 21, the multidimensional project “The Fool” was announced at Satelight’s booth at Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) 2013. It was revealed that Shoji Kawamori, who is well-known from the Macross series, will be directing the first part of the project, Nobunaga the Fool.

Nobunaga the Fool is a mix of historical fantasy and sci-fi, taking place neither during the Warring States Period nor during modern times, and is set on a spaceship. When asked why the work is themed around Nobunaga, Kawamori replied, “To pull off such an unprecedented thing with one of history’s heroes is remarkable.” He went on to say, “Doesn’t it match today’s era for something new to be born from a culture-clashing time?” Kawamori also commented that he wants everyone to foster a new challenge and enjoy the start of the new content.

Kawamori is a triumphant director whose past works include Macross F and AKB0048. His works are known for having an organic, “live” feel. The multidimensional project “The Fool” is poised to be the epitome of blending the boundaries between anime and live-action. Look forward to our follow-up report on this ambitious project.
