The anime DD Fist of the North Star will begin broadcasting on April 2 on Tokyo TV. The anime is a gag comedy based on the popular series Fist of the North Star and features chibi characters and a comical story.
In the 1980s, Fist of the North Star was popular not only in Japan, but also worldwide. In 1995, the series was adapted into a Hollywood live-action movie. The series has also spawned many video games, the most recent of which is the Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage series, which has become a record hit. This year marks the 30th year since Fist of the North Star first began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump. DD Fist of the North Star was created, in part, because of this.
The illustrator of the original work, Tetsuo Hara, shared his enthusiasm and support for the anime, saying, “When Fist of the North Star was serializing, what I really wanted to draw was a comedy filled with gags! [This anime] hits those feelings right on the head!” Hara, who it seems was unexpectedly aiming to be a gag manga author, is the animation supervisor for the anime as well as in charge of the chibi characters.
