Fujio A. Fujiko’s manga Ninja Hattori-kun is a popular work that spans generations. The anime was first broadcast in the 80s, and even today, it is widely popular among children. It has been announced that the sequel to the anime will begin broadcasting on the anime specialty channel Animax on May 13.

Differing from how the work has been structured up until now, it will also be broadcast on Japan’s TV Asahi and Shin-Ei Video. Furthermore, the sequel is being produced in cooperation with India’s Reliance Media Works, and has already started broadcasting in India. In other words, the anime is being created in India and reimported to be broadcast in Japan.

The truth is, the past work Hattori-kun was hugely popular in India, and the new work was created in India to meet the needs of this wide fanbase. However, the Indian version still uses that same characters and world as the original work; the story still depicts the adventures of Hattori-kun, Kenichi, Shinzo, and Kemumaki in a town in Tokyo.

Even though it’s been 25 years since a new work in the Hattori-kun series, the revival has picked up great attention in India. Due to its popularity in India, it seems like there is great interest to expand the series further overseas.
