On Feb. 10, 2013, a live event titled “THE IDOLM@STER MUSIC FESTIV@L OF WINTER!!” was held for the anime The Idolmaster (stylized as THE IDOLM@STER) at Makuhari Messe in Chiba.
As usual, despite having already been shared with media sources prior, new information was announced at the event. The announcement revealed that an anime movie for The Idolmaster is in the works.
The present idol boom in Japan was instigated back in 2011 when the popular game The Idolmaster was adapted into an anime. The current characters in The Idolmaster were based on the 2007 work directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai, Idolmaster: Xenoglossia, which was originally planned to be a robot anime. For this reason, it can be said that the 2011 series The Idolmaster is the first true anime for the series. Approximately one and a half years have passed since its start, and due to fans’ great support, it was decided to adapt the work into a movie.
The staff and cast of the anime are regrouping to work on the movie together. Atsushi Nishigori will once again take up the role of director. The screenplay is being created by Nishigori and
Tatsuya Takahashi, who has build upon the visual novel genre with his work on To Heart.
Nishigori is also helping with the character designs, and has already finished the film’s key visuals. The familiar idols are shown all together, and truly muster up a feeling of great enthusiasm for the movie. Look forward to our follow-up report!
