Let’s Have a Blast with Hatsune Miku! [2/2]: Hatsune Miku Sings!

In the last article, we explained how to install the voice synthesis DTM software “Hatsune Miku”.

If you haven’t read it yet, check it out here: http://goo.gl/Iskle

This time, we’re going to explain how to operate the software.

After you have installed the Hatsune Miku software, double click the icon on your desktop; the piano screen should instantly pop up. From this screen, you can perform general operations, arrange notes, work with Miku’s voice, and so on. However, you do have to create the music by ear, and this can be difficult for those not familiar with creating music. For such people, there is assistance software. Domini is a musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) software that is free to download. This software makes recognizing pitch very easy. Definitely give it a try!

Now that you’ve got the tune down, the next step is working on the song’s lyrics. Basically you input the song lyrics one by one, a process that requires considerable attention. For this process, a special feature called “Flow” is recommended. This convenient feature automatically assigns a note to the lyrics you input. However, in order to use this feature, you must be familiar with the katakana and hiragana Japanese alphabets. Kanji is not necessary.

For the sake of Japanese-speaking users who may feel that not using kanji is inconvenient, there is a tool available on the internet called “Miku Word Conversion”. By using this tool, the kanji lyrics that are inputted will be converted in the text entry column of the program’s tool page, and this can be used in the Vocaloid software. Using this tool will increase your composition efficiency in one fell swoop. If you’re aiming on making a big hit song like “Senbonzakura” or “Kagerou Days”, how about trying this tool out?

Lastly, check out the a capella Miku version of Radio Kaikan’s original CM song and try to make a version of your own to compare. No matter what kind of song you make, the melody will be beautiful thanks to Miku’s voice!
