On Feb. 10, Master Cup 5, the 5 on 5 tournament for the game Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited, was held at Tokyo Leisure Land Palette Town in Aomi, Tokyo.
The Master Cup is the largest event held for the Tekken series. For this year’s tournament, 125 teams from all over Japan, for a total of 625 people, participated. The participants were comprised of players from South Korea and players who were raised on 2D beat ‘em up games. The tournament was the most exciting yet for the Master Cup.
Participants were divided into 31 groups and fiercely battled it out. The tournament ran all day, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. In the end, much excitement was had and some tears were shed.
The winning team was Tokyo Hip-Hop Dokokai, who ended the tournament in dramatic fashion with four losses and five wins. In addition to earning the prestigious title of M5 Champions, the team also received many presents from the sponsoring companies.
In addition, a participant named “Lever Hamaru Da!” from South Korea who has made numerous appearances at tournaments, talked about the condition of Tekken in South Korea.
