More Information on the TV Broadcast of “Space Battleship Yamato 2199”

It is no question that Space Battleship Yamato is one of Japan’s representative sci-fi anime. The series, which was originally broadcast in 1974, was hugely influential on many works that followed. In 2010, the series was made into a live-action film, which was highly talked about in Japan. Now, the masterpiece is being reborn in a new TV anime.

The name of the new TV anime is Space Battleship Yamato 2199. Up until now, this rework was only viewable at special screening events or by buying the Blu-ray and DVD. However, the anime will begin broadcasting on TV this April. The anime will be broadcast on MBS and TBS on Sundays at 5 p.m. This timeslot was previously filled by Fullmetal Alchemist, so both stations have high hopes that the anime will do well.

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is being directed by Yutaka Izubuchi, who previously worked on Patlabor and Mobile Suit Gundam as the mechanical designer. The character designer for the anime is Nobuteru Yuki, who has designed characters for many anime and games beginning with The Vision of Escaflowne. Because it has been 39 years since the original broadcast, this anime is picking up attention from a wide range of fans, from kids to adults.

Don’t miss the broadcast this April!
