Quite a stir was made on New Year’s Eve when Nekomonogatari (Kuro) was broadcast on Nico Nico Live, Tokyo MX, and BS11 simultaneously. Surprisingly, over 100 thousand people timeshifted the live streaming of the anime on Nico Nico Live. In other words, though it may be sacrilegious to say, 100 thousand people were unsure of the anime and wanted to try it before watching the whole thing. Even still, having a submission from the anime category on Nico Nico Live timeshifted more than 100 thousand times was quite an achievement for the site.
The Monogatari series was originally created by Ishin Nishio. Not just the current Nekomonogatari (Kuro), but also Nisemonogatari have been huge hits for the franchise. Moreover, the Bakemonogatari marathon that was broadcast on Nico Nico Live set a record when it was timeshifted 90 thousand times. With the numbers from Nico Nico Live, the series’ popularity is clear to see.
A second season has been confirmed for the Monogatari series. As the series inches closer to its conclusion in 2013, it seems like it’s going to pull the novel industry and anime industry along with it.
