Continuation to “Ultra Q” Begins Airing

The legend has been revived after almost 50 years!

It’s well known that Ultraman is the representative series in Japan when it comes to special effects dramas, but did you know that there is a predecessor series to Ultraman? That series is Ultra Q. Ultra Q began broadcasting in 1966 and eventually became Ultraman. The series featured the introduction of monsters such as Kanegon and Garamon, and gave rise to an unprecedented boom in the popularity of monsters.

Now, after 47 years, the series is being continued. The title of the continuation is Neo Ultra Q, and it is a joint effort between WOWOW and Tsuburaya Productions. The series began broadcasting on WOWOW Prime on Jan. 12. No word of a TV broadcast has been announced.

It has been confirmed that Neo Ultra Q will be 12 episodes long. The show has four directors: Gakuryu Ishii, Yasutomo Nakai, Yu Irie, and Kiyotaka Taguchi. All four directors are very particular about capturing the scenes just right, and any given scene may be composed of ten or more retakes. In charge of the show’s narration is playwright Keishi Nagatsuka.

If you are an Ultraman fan, don’t miss the revival of this legendary classic!
