An idol-themed work has won an influential award!
NAMCO BANDAI Games’ popular series The Idolmaster (stylized as THE iDOLM@STER) has won the Project Award at the 54th Japan Record Awards for the game music and voice cast talk compilation CD “THE IDOLM@STER ANIM@TION MASTER Namassuka SPECIAL 01”. Past winners include big name franchises such as Dragon Quest and Evangelion. Now The Idolmaster joins this prestigious list.
The Idolmaster is an idol producing game that got its start in 2005 as an arcade game. The game features a system in which players become an idol producer and train a group of idols. Due to its colorful cast of characters and its high quality music, it has gathered support from many fans and has even broken into other forms of media. Starting from the release of the first CD titled “THE IDOLM@STER MASTERPIECE 01” in September 2005, over 100 CDs have been released for the game to date.
“THE IDOLM@STER ANIM@TION MASTER Namassuka SPECIAL 01” is the first in a series of spinoff albums from the anime adaptation of The Idolmaster, which broadcast from July to December 2012. The album features the main girls from the anime and is made in the motif of the girls’ variety show from the anime, “Namassuka!? Sunday”. In addition to a compilation of the girls’ talk skits, the CD also includes new songs as well as a cover song requested by fans.
The first five CDs in this series, including the award-winning CD, are now on sale. Each CD also debuted within the top 10 on the Oricon Overall Album ranking.
