Complete CD Box Set for “Revolutionary Girl Utena” Music to Be Re-Released

Do you know of the highly influential anime Revolutionary Girl Utena that was broadcast in 1997? The anime’s popularity isn’t restricted to Japan; people throughout the world have a fondness for the work. Kunihiko Ikuhara’s first directing experience happened to be Revolutionary Girl Utena. Since then, he hasn’t slowed down. In fact, he is also famous for directing and co-writing the magnificent 2011 anime Mawaru Penguindrum. In addition to having an aesthetic world view, Revolutionary Girl Utena is popular because it has many unique traits not found in other anime.

In 2008, a complete CD box set of the music from Revolutionary Girl Utena was released. Even ten years after the anime’s broadcast, the box set sold out due to the high popularity of the music, and became unobtainable unless you wanted to pay and arm and a leg for it. However, fear not! The box set is being re-released! Priced at 12,600 yen, the complete CD box set will be re-released on Jan. 23, 2013. With only 1,500 units being sold, this is definitely a wonderful collector’s item.

The idea for the re-release was born, in part, from a conversation between director Kunihiko Ikuhara and producer Shinichi Ikeda at an all night event for Revolutionary Girl Utena on Dec. 8, 2012 that caused them to realize that “you can’t really find the box set anymore.” Sometimes great ideas come right out of thin air!
