Leiji Matsumoto Honored as Special Guest at 40th Angoulême International Comics Festival in France

Leiji Matsumoto, who was recently awarded the Chevalier in the L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France, has accomplished another achievement in France. From Jan. 31 to Feb. 3, 2013, Matsumoto was a guest at the Angoulême International Comics Festival.

The event is a comic festival that starts with comics from France (called bandes dessinées) and incorporating comics from around the world, including Japanese manga, American comics, Central and South American comics, and manga from East Asia. The event is well known internationally and draws in more than 7,000 professionals from around the world.

This year’s Angoulême International Comics Festival marked the event’s 40th year, and Leiji was chosen as a guest for the event. Speaking of Leiji, this year also marks his 60th year as a manga artist. Throughout the festival he conversed with fans and participated in several events, including a discussion and screening event for his representative work Space Pirate Captain Harlock.
