Based on Tim Burton’s story, directed by Henry Selick, and with music written by Danny Elfman, Nightmare Before Christmas was made with stop motion animation and takes place in a peculiar world with seven towns, each responsible for a different holiday. Tired of their yearly Halloween routine, Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloweentown, decides they should take over Christmastown instead, an idea all townspeople like, except for the ragdoll Sally, who soon realizes their approach isn’t going to work. Meanwhile, Santa becomes the stake in Oogie Boogie’s gambling game.
Since its 1993 release the dark fantasy musical worthily acquired the title of “cult hit” and its characters have made the jump to many other forms of media, including myriad merchandise in the form of apparel, figures, and accessories.
