Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the second adaptation of the fantastic post-Industrial Revolution European set manga Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. More closely following the original manga, the story centers around the two Elric Brothers - Edward and Alphonse - who are both keen alchemists. After their father, Hohenheim, abandons the family and their mother dies, the boys decide to try a difficult alchemical procedure which goes horribly wrong, leaving Edward missing an arm and leg, and Alphonse entirely without a physical body so that he only continues to exist sealed within a large suit of armor.
After Edward receives prosthetic limbs from childhood friend Winry, the brothers make their way to the city where they become government-approved State Alchemists. Nicknamed the “Fullmetal Alchemist,” Edward and his brother Alphonse set out under their commanding officer Roy Mustang to find the Philosopher's Stone in the hope of regaining their physical bodies.
