Fukubukuro
Fukubukuro is one of the greatest ideas Japan has so far given to the world! The word fukubukuro is made up of two Japanese characters 福袋 which literally mean “lucky bag” but you might also have heard them called “mystery bags” or “grab bags” as they’re filled to the brim with awesome yet totally secret contents, so it’s kind of like playing the lottery, but you always win! Fukubukuro started out as a Japanese New Year tradition, but these days you can see them all year round, and they’ve even made their way to stores all over the world too.
Here on TOM you’ll sometimes find some very special fukubukuro which might be themed around your favorite anime or manga franchise, fashion brands, or even certain kinds of items like books or stationery! Usually there will be several grades of bags on offer divided by price levels so you can decide just how lucky you want to be, but you’re always guaranteed some nice surprises when you open up your fukubukuro!
