In Kouta Hirano’s fantasy manga Drifters, various historical personages have been summoned to a strange world in defence against the Ends who are trying to conquer it. Just one of these famous warriors plucked from their own time is the incomparable Oda Nobunaga - one of the most well-known Japanese warlords of the Sengoku period. He is credited with being the first man to attempt to unify the whole of Japan. Although he died almost 20 years before fellow Drifter Toyohisa, the work he began would eventually lead to the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Edo era. Another of the things he was first to initiate was the use of arquebuses (early muzzle-loaded firearms) in Japanese warfare. Accordingly, Nobunaga uses an arquebus as his main weapon in the manga and can be seen with it here stretched out in one hand ready to launch at the enemy, his face covered in a battle-crazy grin. Oda Nobunaga has often been cast as a historical villain, but perhaps you can help redeem him by making him a member of your prized collection!
