Sword Art Online's Next Film Set For 2022 Release!

Isekai franchise Sword Art Online is getting a new anime film titled Sword Art Online Progressive: Kuraki Yūyami no Scherzo ("Scherzo of a Dark Dusk") in 2022!

The announcement of the new film marked two days since the premiere of Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night on October 30. Aside from a visual revealing the title and release year, no details have been shared.

Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night is based on the Progressive series, a floor-by-floor reboot of the original Sword Art Online light novel series penned by Reki Kawahara. The story will jump to Asuna's point of view as she is forced to battle through all 100 floors of the immersive MMORPG world of Aincrad in order to escape the deadly game.

Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night is currently screening in theaters in Japan. It will also open at theaters and IMAX in the US and Canada on December 3, 2021.
