Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 is joining the list of anime movies that has announced a delay in its release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anno Hideaki, creator of the hit anime, released a statement through the official Evangelion Twitter account, where he expressed sympathy for the pandemic's victims and gratitude for those working to combat it. He also apologized for having the extend the wait for the series' fourth movie, which was originally slated to air open in Japan on Jun. 27.

Anno Hideaki is credited as chief director and screenwriter, as well as for planning and the source material. Tsurumaki Kazuya and Nakayama Katsuichi are credited as directors with Nishigori Atsushi as chief animation supervisor. Iseki Shuichi, Kim Sejun, Asano Naoyuki, Tanaka Masayoshi, and Arai Koichi will serve as animation supervisors. Yamashita Ikuto, Ihara Toshiaki, Koyama Shigeto, Anno Moyoko, Takakura Takeshi, and Watabe Takashi are all credited with design, with art direction by Kushida Tatsuya, music by Sagisu Shirou, and concept by Maeda Mahiro.
An original anime that first aired in 1995, Neon Genesis Evangelion follows teenager Ikari Shinji as he is forced to defend humanity from existential threat by piloting a giant robot at the behest of his authoritarian father.
Rebuild of Evangelion is a four-part series produced by Studio Khara as a remake of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Its first installment, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. premiered in 2007, followed by Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo. in 2009 and 2012.
