Manga, AI, Local Flavor. Manga-Themed Hotel Tavinos Opens in August

Hotel Tavinos, a hotel for overseas visitors, will open in Hamamatsucho, Tokyo on Aug. 1. The hotel’s motto is that it is a “travel hub hotel that supports active travels,” and it aims to be a hotel that offers visitors complete services at low prices. Also, with its AI concierge and manga-themed interiors, it’s unlike any other low cost hotel.

The manga theme is even incorporated into these desks that each have a plug.
The lounge is a great space for conversing.
The lounge is themed after a fictional shopping district.
The hotel’s attention to detail is even shown through their offering of complimentary bags to guests.

The hotel is fundamentally self-service. There are computer terminals for both the coatroom and for checking in, and each can be completed with a card. There are also dedicated shelves as an amenity, so guests can freely choose what they need.

Beverages and light meals are available in the lobby lounge and can be enjoyed there as well. Guests are able to freely use the lounge anytime, and the hotel recommends it for talking with other guests. Guests can share information with their fellow tourists about sightseeing spots or events, so everyone will be able to have a more memorable trip.

An automated cloakroom where guests can easily leave their luggage.

One of the hotel’s highlights is its AI concierge, TAVINOSHIORI. TAVINOSHIORI is a massive touch screen panel that shows a 3D rendering of the hotel and surrounding area. There is also a robot-like character that allows guests to easily search for restaurants and events in the area using voice recognition.

Additional information is also provided by cooperating websites, and there is a wealth of information from Tavinos staff as well, so guests can get even more details and local info. It’s also possible to send information from the concierge to a smartphone. The map shows up-to-date schedules and animations for public transportation like trains and more, and it’s interesting just to look at. Other information like weather will also be included in the future.

With TAVINOSHIORI guests can search for information about the area using voice commands.

The most impressive part of Hotel Tavinos is its design. The concept of theming the interior after manga came from art designer Mika Tsutai. Previously, Tsutai announced a project that fuses manga and cooking called Manga Plates, which led to her doing the interior design of the hotel. The design of the hotel, from the entrance to the guest rooms, is based on the concept of a simulated travel experience. The fictional Japanese shopping district in the lounge, the hallways from the check-in area to the guest rooms, and the rooms themselves are all decked out in art. This represents a simulated experience of traveling in Japan, from sightseeing at a shopping district to arriving at the hotel, checking into the room to having breakfast the next morning. The aim of the hotel is for guests to enjoy both their actual trip and a simulated one inside the hotel. In addition, there are more areas throughout the hotel decorated with manga art, so guests can enjoy searching for them during their stay.

The guest room floor. There are manga designs on the carpet and, of course, the walls.
The corridor leading to the rooms. Its manga theme runs from the check-in area all the way to the guest room doors.
The rooms are filled with manga art that you won’t help but want to take pictures of!
A guest room themed after sunny-side-up eggs.
Even the bedding has drawings of sunny-side-up eggs.
There are three different rooms themed after breakfast.
There are manga designs even in small places through the rooms.
The rooms are compact but fully functional.

The facilities and services are quite simple, and the rooms are quite compact. However, since the rooms utilize their space well for storage it seems unlikely guests will be inconvenienced by their size. For those searching for a simple, affordable hotel for one to two people, think about adding Hotel Tavinos to your list of choices for a completely unique experience.
