A sequel to the live action movie adaptation of dark fantasy manga Tokyo Ghoul is currently in production and will be released sometime in 2019!
While specific release details have not yet been revealed, filming is slated to begin in Oct. 2018. Currently titled Tokyo Ghoul 2, the sequel will see the return of Kubota Masataka as half-ghoul Kaneki Ken. Two additions to the cast were also confirmed: Matsuda Shouta as powerful ghoul Tsukiyama Shu and Yamamoto Maika as Anteiku waitress and ghoul Kirishima Touka (replacing Shimizu Fumika from the previous movie).
Originally created by Ishida Sui, Tokyo Ghoul follows the story of a young half-ghoul named Kaneki Ken as he learns to fight for survival and deal with his ghoul-induced hunger for human flesh.
The series' first live action movie premiered in Japan in Jul. 2017 after a number of popular anime adaptations. The second season of the TV anime adapting Tokyo Ghoul:re, the sequel to the original manga, is also slated to begin airing on Oct. 9, 2018.
Tokyo Ghoul 2 will open in Japanese theaters sometime in 2019.
