An upcoming app will allow tourists to see the real world and the virtual world of Sword Art Online merge!
Smartphone app “Tokyo Anime Tourism 2018” releases for iOS and Android on Jan. 28. Based on the recently released Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale, the app is holding a digital stamp rally featuring 12 different locations in major areas of Tokyo.
Once downloaded, all users have to do is check in within 30 meters of the designated spot to receive points. The points aren’t just for self-satisfaction and fun; they allow you to visit the Tokyo Anime Center in DNP Plaza and purchase original goods like badges, acrylic files, and hand towels (until Feb. 28, 2018).
Best of all, fans can summon certain characters to the spot they're visiting! The app uses AR (augmented reality) to reveal the characters that can’t be seen with the naked eye, just like the Augma devices in Sword Art Online.
