With an attendance of 700,000 and box-office takings surpassing 600 million yen, Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale was a great hit not only in Japan but overseas as well.
The film premiered on Mar. 9 in North America, bringing in 1,350,000 dollars in the first four days, which is the highest-grossing opening weekend in Aniplex of America release history. The movie was well received by fans and critics alike. A dubbed version will hit theaters on Apr. 22.
It was also a huge success in Asia (released in mid-February), especially in Taiwan, where it ranked 3rd on its opening week, boxing 150 million yen. It grossed 80 million yen in South Korea and 50 million yen in Singapore.
Ordinal Scale is also scheduled to release in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, UK, and Italy (subbed), as well as Germany, Mexico, France, and Italy (dubbed version).
