Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale has sold over one million tickets in Japan alone since its release on Feb. 18!
Ordinal Scale is the first theatrical venture for the Sword Art Online franchise and takes place after the end of the anime’s second season. Featuring a new scenario by original author Kawahara Reki, the movie follows Kirito, Asuna and the gang as they become embroiled in the world of a next-generation online game which uses augmented reality rather than full dive.
As of March 6, over 1,012,331 tickets have been sold with box office takings reaching 1,370,738,380 yen. The movie is set to roll out to 4DX/MX4D capable venues from March 10 so its assault on the box office shows no signs of slowing down!
