The famous and hugely popular light novel series with more than 16.7 million volumes sold, Sword Art Online, is getting a new story and film by its original author, Reki Kawahara!
It’s been decided that the latest entry in Kadokawa’s Sword Art Online franchise, Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale, will opening in spring 2017! Pre-order tickets (which come with a special bonus!) go on sale July 16 in theaters all over Japan. A clip and key visual by Shingo Adachi were also revealed to 3,000 fans on July 2 at Anime Expo 2016 in Los Angeles, California!
Based on the novel by the winner of the 15th Dengeki Light Novel First Prize, Reki Kawahara, the Sword Art Online is set in the mysterious new-generation game Sword Art Online and tells the story of protagonist Kirito. It’s garnered incredible popularity since the April 2009 release of its first volume with more than 11.5 million volumes sold in Japan and 16.7 million sold worldwide. It has since received two anime adaptations, games, and even merchandise, expanding in a wide variety of mediums. Now, the spring of 2017 will mark the release of a new Sword Art Online film with an original story by Reki Kawahara. Fans all around the world are waiting excitedly for its opening!

Coming Spring 2017! New Key Visual, Clip & Stills Released!
Voice actresses from the film including Haruka Tomatsu (Asuna) and Ayahi Takagaki (Lisbeth) also made surprise guest appearances at the Los Angeles anime convention Anime Expo 2016’s Sword Art Online Festival on July 2! There, it was revealed to the 3,000 attending SAO fans that the film would be released in Japan in 2017, and fans responded ecstatically with cheers. Tomatsu said at the event, “I’m excited as a fan about the release of the film! The staff and cast are all working hard to make this a film that everyone will enjoy.” Takagi also said, “It being an entirely new story makes the trailer all the more exciting! I’m sure this will be a work that everyone will love! Please look forward to future developments and its release!” The new original trailer, as well as the newest key visual from character designer Shingo Adachi were also revealed.

Yuki Kajiura SAO Concert Hollywood Performance Planned!
The Yuki Kajiura concert “Live ~Featuring Sword Art Online~,” performed on March 21 at the Tokyo International Forum, will be revived on Jan. 14, 2017 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood. This performance will also be Yuki Kajiura’s first solo concert in North America. It will be an incredible chance for fans of Kajiura and Sword Art Online, so if you have a chance to go, don’t miss out!
