Detective Conan x Live Mystery: Youjou no Mystery Includes Popular Performers Ryo Hirano, Akihisa Shiono, Kodai Miyagi, and Rihona Kato!

Detective Conan Live Mystery Production Committee’s collaborative Detective Conan (also known as Case Closed) event, “Detective Conan x Live Mystery: Youjou no Mystery,” will be open from Aug. 10-21 at Tokyo’s Kinokuniya Southern Theater, Sept. 16 & 17 at Sapporo’s Doshin Hall, and Sept. 22-25 at Osaka’s Matsushita IMP Hall. Prior to curtains being raised, a joint news event was held on June 15 with the performing actors and actresses.

Appearing at the event were performers Ryo Hirano (from Sayonara Sorcier musical), Akihisa Shiono (from Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi theater performance), and Kodai Miyagi (from Prince of Tennis musical third season). Also appearing were Rihona Kato, who also works as an MC on the TV program Rank Oukoku, as well as Yutaka Hamamoto, Yuko Nakamichi, and Ichiro Mikami, for a total of seven cast members, as well as producer Hiroki Murakami (leader of the acting troupe Sessya Meunière) and scriptwriter Sano Babitch (of acting troupe Tokyo Milk Hall). There was even a surprise appearance by Conan Edogawa during the photo session!

Commemorating 20 years of Detective Conan episodes and films, this live show gives its audience a chance to become detectives by solving its mystery! It’s divided into three parts: the incident, search, and solution. By giving fans a chance to solve the murder on this magnificent passenger boat and answer together, they can enjoy both the performance and riddle. The scriptwriter, producer, and performers spoke at the event about their excitement for the show.

Firstly, Hiroki Murakami said about the event’s unique qualities:
“This is a live mystery, so visitors get the chance to actually see the crime as it happens and try to solve it, so it’s very different from the usual stage show. Specific ‘reasoning time’ has been set up, and it will be a really unique play experience.”

Next is a comment from scriptwriter Sano Babitch:
“It’s a mystery, so it’s different from ordinary dramas or suspense stories, and attendees have to actually solve it. It’s an entirely different way of getting pulled in than from watching on TV. Someone here today also happens to be the murderer, haha.”

Following this were excited comments and a question and answer section with the performers.

Ryo Hirano, 26 (plays Ryoichi Hagami):
“I play a member of the crew of the passenger boat who used to be a college detective. I’m probably the closest to being a guest, but I just might be the culprit, too, haha. This is my first time doing something like this, and I still need some practice, but this is a good company, so I think that will shine through.”

Ryo Hirano

Akihisa Shiono, 21 (plays Hideto Todo):
“I play a college student riding in the passenger boat… This is the first time we’ve met, but yeah, I think this is a good company, haha. It’s also my first time doing this, so I’m a bit nervous and excited, but I’m going to try my best in this role.”

Akihisa Shiono

Kodai Miyagi, 21 (plays Seiya Manabe):
“I’m also playing a college student studying science on the boat who’s clear-headed, smart, and aiming to study abroad in America. My hair is light-colored today for work-related reasons, but it will be black by the performance, haha. I’ll try my best to be a believable science-oriented student!”

Kodai Miyagi

Rihona Kato, 21 (plays Sumire Suzumoto):
“I play the daughter of Zaibatsu Suzumoto, a wealthy character. I’m very happy to be playing a part in this collaborative work with the popular Detective Conan series! I’ll be putting my all into this role.”

Rihona Kato

Yutaka Hamamoto, 35 (plays Shunsuke Shirakawa):
“I play Shirakawa who works for Zaibatsu Suzumoto as a steward. Speaking of mysteries, the real mystery is why I’m not in the front row, haha. I’ll try my best to make this something that fans of Conan, anime, and mysteries will enjoy!”

Yuko Nakamichi, 48 (plays Kyoko Suzumoto):
“I play the stepmother of Sumire, played by Kato. I hope that we can make this delicate relationship interesting for viewers. I’m sure that many sharp Conan-like boys and girls will come see this, so I also hope that we can shake things up for them.”

Ichiro Mikami, 55 (plays Hiromi Igarashi):
“I play this magnificent ship’s captain. When she heard about this, my daughter, a fifth grader in elementary school and Detective Conan fan, was probably even more excited than I was, so I’ll work hard for her, haha. She also told me to bring home the script without getting it dirty.”

Children 4 and older can take part, making the show one that both parents and children can enjoy together. For kids elementary school age and younger, a special hint has been prepared, so the show will be easy to do as a family. Make a good memory of becoming a detective this summer break. In addition to performances from Aug. 10–21 at Tokyo’s Kinokuniya Southern Theater, it will also be staged in Sapporo and Osaka.
