Force of Will Anime Adaptation Announced, Aiming for Audiences Worldwide in 2018!

Force of Will Co., Ltd., the company in charge of planning, developing, and selling the world-famous trading card game (TCG) Force of Will, have decided to work on an anime adaptation project. Aiming for a 2018 release, the first step in this project is Force of Will the Movie.

Force of Will the Movie is an omnibus film based on Force of Will. It’s planned to include six animations, each approximately 15 minutes long for a total of 90 minutes. With the world, folklore, legends, and fairy-tales of Force of Will as their basis, each of these six works will have a unique style.

A number of top creators including Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film nominee Shuhei Morita will be participating. This will also be an international project, with original work by the CG studio RiFF Studio, and Taiwanese CG company TWR Entertainment working on director Yuichiro Hayashi’s film. There are also plans for new releases every year following 2018.

Through these animations, Force of Will is aiming for a worldwide audience beyond the Japanese market and TCG realm. As the first step, this project was introduced at the joint event of France’s animated film festival Annecy International Animated Film Festival, held from June 13 to 18, the international trade fair MIFA.

Project details are planned for release moving forward. Keep your eyes open for exciting releases of original Japanese content for this massive project.

The director will be Shuhei Morita, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for Possession ( Tsukumo ), and character design will be done by top animator Tatsuyuki Tanaka. A New Style of Animation from Taiwan, a Project that Crosses Borders Between Countries

Force of Will the Movie will not only catch the attention of fans all over the world, but bring together international talent. As it expands, it will recruit talented studios and creators from all over.

Raam: The Bridge to Lanka, one of the first works to be released in the Force of Will the Movie anthology, is doing just that. The animation studio RiFF Studio, famed for its high quality, will be taking on its first original work. They’ll be retelling one of the two ancient Indian heroic epic poems, Ramayana, as a space love story.

Hayashi will also be seeking help from a Taiwanese studio for the anime based on Journey to the West. TWR Entertainment will be working on CG production. There will be high-speed action scenes with close-quarters combat and guns.

This project will continue looking overseas for talented creators. Be sure to keep your eyes open for developments after 2018!
