English Version of Science Manga “The Story of Basic Immunology” Now Available Online!

On Dec. 17, an English version of the educational manga about the immune system and immunology called The Story of Basic Immunology was made available on Kyowa Hakko Kirin’s global site.

The work is a web manga on which manga artist Ryo Koshino 1 and Kyowa Hakko Kirin collaborated. While meeting with the editor of a small community magazine named Ayaka Kijima, immunology researcher Hajime Ushijima gives an explanation of the immune system and antibodies. The manga can be read like an ebook on PCs and smartphones.

Regarding their aims for the manga, the company stated, “we want readers to understand the immune system, beginning with antibodies, and to come to recognize the wonders of science.”

^1^ Ryo Koshino was born in September of 1967 in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture. His comic N’s Aoi (Nurse Aoi) was serialized in 2004 for over six years. The comic depicting issues of modern medicine and the struggles of a nurse, became a huge success and was later made into a TV drama series in 2006. His other major works include Machi Isha Jumbo!! (Kodansha) and Dr. Ashura (Nihon Bungeisha). Currently he is writing Ginko Shogai Tantosha Haruo Takenaka for the magazine Shukan Gendai (Shueisha).
