Following the bankruptcy of animation studio Manglobe, production has resumed on the Genocidal Organ animated movie which had previously been suspended with the release date postponed. Newly formed animation production house, Geno Studio, will pick up the project with the main members of the creative team including director Shuko Murase remaining in place.
The team are aiming to complete the feature-length movie before the end of 2016, though a release date remains undecided. A new distribution and release date will be looked for once the film is finished.
The Genocidal Organ animated movie adaptation is one of the projects created under the Project Itoh programme which was intended to release anime adaptations of the three full-length novels of the late science fiction author, Project Itoh, over three months. Each movie is produced by a different studio and creative team, which in itself became something of a talking point.
However, owing to the late September 2015 bankruptcy of animation studio Manglobe which had been in charge of producing Genocidal Organ, the movie’s production was halted and on Nov. 13 there was no other option than to postpone the scheduled release date. Following the announcement, advance ticket sales were refunded, but some still fear for the movie’s outcome. Thus the resumption of production is certainly good news for fans.
Geno Studio, which will be picking up the project, was founded in November 2015 by Koji Yamamoto, the chief producer of the three Project Itoh movies. The studio takes its name from the English version of the movie’s title, Genocidal Organ, indicating that it was created for this project’s production.
Twin Engine, of which Yamamoto is the managing director, has put up 100% of the investment for Geno Studio which will also be lead by Yamamoto with Yoritomo Yoneuchi as director of production and Hideo Uda as administration director. The company is currently in the midst of registration, but as soon as the registration is completed production of Genocidal Organ will resume.
Comment from Genocidal Organ’s director, Shukou Murase:
“No one could have predicted that something like this would happen, but now that we can continue with the production I can only think of it as an opportunity given to me by Project Itoh himself.
“The chief producer, Koji Yamamoto, has set up Geno Studio for us and the main creative team is getting back together too. We’re all of the same thought - striving towards making something that will live up to all your expectations.”
