The band with Aomori resident Hiromu Akita at its center, amazarashi, has unveiled the music video for “Speed to Masatsu” (Speed and Friction) which is scheduled for release on Aug. 19. The song has been chosen as the main theme for the TV anime Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace created in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the death of Edogawa Ranpo.
The music video takes the theme of young people’s restlessness representing their stress with a high school girl dancing madly in the Edogawa Ranpo-like claustrophobic space of a stall in the school bathroom. This enclosed space hints at loneliness and despair about the future and the lyrics reflecting from the walls as light show a link between the girl’s personal suffering and her distressed appearance. The girl’s inner madness is also gradually exposed by the alternate performer’s furious dancing. Which is the girl’s real persona? The powerful and even erotic intensity of the dance expresses the spirit of young people struggling through a closed-in life.
Keiichi Motoyama of spirited creative boutique SIX who received Asia’s first prize at the well-known international music festival South by Southwest is the creative director on the “Speed to Masatsu” music video. amazarashi’s “Ana o Hotteiru” music video was selected by Space Shower’s Best Videos becoming the third of their videos to do so following “Kisetsu wa Tsugitsugi Shindeiku” which has received over 7 million plays.
