New information about the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! movie was revealed at Comic-Con, creating an incredible amount of excitement for fans around the world. On July 11 (local time) at Comic-Con in San Diego, the largest pop culture event in the United States, a Yu-Gi-Oh! talk panel event was featured. Original author Kazuki Takahashi participated in the panel together with the production staff of the new movie, and uncovered many new details that sent fans into a frenzy.
One of the most significant announcements made was that Takahashi would take on the role of executive producer himself, while also participating in story and character designs, which means that the movie will show off the true colors of Takahashi’s creativity. The poster that was revealed for the first time at Comic-Con was also created by Takahashi. What is really surprising is that Seto Kaiba is featured in the center, with Yugi Muto at his right and a what appears to be a new character at his left. The American comic-style coloring of the poster is refreshing, and the setting that extends from Earth into space hints at the grand scale of the story.
In regards to the story, Takahashi stated that the movie will serve as a follow-up to the original story, and will uncover some of the more mysterious parts of the original story that have yet to be drawn and presented. He also told the audience that Seto Kaiba will be playing an important role in the movie, and that we should definitely look forward to the return of Yugi and Kaiba. The new movie will be something for fans around the world to really enjoy, regardless of how long they have been following the series.
The subtitle is set to be “The Dark Side of Dimensions,” and the movie will open in theatres in Japan from Golden Week 2016. It has also been announced that Satoshi Kuwabara from Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal will serve as the director, while the cast will feature Shunsuke Kazama and Kenjiro Tsuda from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters as Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba respectively.
San Diego Comic-Con is an enormous pop-culture-based event that ran for four days this year from July 9–12. In addition to the*Yu-Gi-Oh!* announcement, other significant productions and projects including Star Wars: The Force Awakens as well as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice were also revealed.
Takahashi’s appearance on the panel at Comic-Con brought great excitement to the audience. At the event, he received not only the Inkpot Award for his significant contributions to pop culture, but also an incredibly warm round of applause from the crowd. In response, Takahashi showed his gratitude towards all of the fans in the U.S. who love and support his work, and told everyone how glad he was to be able to come to Comic-Con.
Based on the fact that the announcement was made not in Japan, but at Comic-Con in the U.S., there is a good chance that Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions will have its part on American soil as well. We all hope that more news comes soon!
