After nine years, the long-awaited 13th volume of The Five Star Stories is set to be released on Aug. 10; Commemorative goods to also go on sale.

The 13th volume of Mamoru Nagano’s The Five Star Stories is set to go on sale on Aug. 10. This will be the first release in nine years, following the 12th volume’s release in 2006. In commemoration of the release date, pre-orders have started for produced-on-order goods, including “Momoko Christine-V” (140,000 yen) and “Chaa Bag” (80,000 yen).
The Five Star Stories has been serialized in Gekkan Newtype (Kadokawa) since 1986. It is the life work of Nagano, who is also known for the character and mecha designs in Heavy Metal L-Gaim and mecha designs in the Gundam series. It garnered a cult following of enthusiastic fans since it began and has surpassed 8.5 million copies in print. It went on hiatus in 2004 and returned to serialization in the May 2013 issue. The May issue was so popular it became hard to find. However, the serialization matches Nagano’s pace, so in almost 30 years, 12 volumes have been released. You could say the long-awaited sale of the 13th volume was expected.
In commemoration of the 13th volume’s launch, Gekkan Newtype is selling the produced-on-order goods “Momoko Christine-V” and “Chaa Bag” on their mail order shop, ShopNewtype.
“Momoko Christine-V” is a doll of the popular character Christine-V. The charismatic doll brand Momoko obsessed over even the small ornaments with over 50 pieces of cloth sewn. It was a triple collaboration which also included Wave, who worked on the The Five Star Stories small scale production model kit. The doll is limited to the first 100 customers and with a price of 140,000 yen, it’s an understandable gem.
The “Chaa Bag” is a perfect reproduction of Cha Tea’s favorite bag in the story. Painstaking effort went into making it under the supervision of the original author. It was completed by hand with the fastidiousness of professionals specializing in bags. Limited to the first 10 customers, the bag is priced at 80,000 yen.
