“Naruto” Spin-Off Comes to a Close, Ending the Series at Exactly 710 Chapters

The spin-off story of the Naruto series titled Naruto Spin-Off: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring Month, came to a close in issue 32 of Weekly Shonen Jump that was released on July 6. The spin-off was a mini-series based on the main Naruto series that came to its conclusion in 2014. Revolving around Boruto, who is the son of Naruto, the story features a new generation of ninjas while showing Sasuke, Sakura, and Sarada as a family.

The short serialization that spanned 10 chapters came to a grand conclusion in issue 32 of Weekly Shonen Jump in full color as the magazine’s central piece. In 2014, the original Naruto series ended at 700 chapters. Combined with the additional 10 chapters of the spin-off series, the total becomes 710, which can be read as “naruto” in Japanese. Quite the perfect conclusion to such an impressive series.

However, this does not mean that the legend of Naruto that we have known and loved for over 15 years is over. The spin-off series will continue the legacy as a film titled Boruto: Naruto the Movie that will open in theatres starting from Aug. 7, and it is something that Naruto fans simply cannot keep their eyes off of.

The film is set in the Hidden Leaf Village led by the Seventh Hokage, Uzumaki Naruto, during a period of rapid growth after the war. Boruto’s maturation and activity in the Chunin Exam that brings together up-and-coming ninjas from five villages is wonderfully portrayed, and the theme of passing down pure determination and connections from one generation to the next runs deep throughout the film. How Naruto treats his son Boruto, and how Sasuke works with Boruto in teaching him the ninja ways are all points that will be focused on.

Having concluded the spin-off series and created a new film that is drawing an incredible amount of attention, executive producer Masashi Kishimoto released the following comment:

“The film was created with the hope of having it serve as a catalyst for dialogue within families and between friends. The dialogue does not have to be about Boruto at all. Making families and friends more interested in the hobbies and passions of each other is the most important thing, and that is all I could ever ask for.”

The legend of Naruto that has accompanied us in our walk through daily life for the past 15 years continues on, and enters into the new era of Boruto this summer. Keep your eyes open for more updates to come.
