“Dimension W” Gets Anime Adaptation

Yuji Iwahara’s Dimension W currently published in Young Gangan has been confirmed to be getting a TV anime adaptation. The staff have been revealed, and the official site is now open. A teaser visual is also posted to the official site.

Dimension W is a serialized work by Yuji Iwahara, a manga artist and the original character designer of the Darker Than Black TV anime series. It has been published since 2011 in Square Enix Publishing’s Young Gangan, with up through volume 7 released so far.

Set in the year 2072, the story involves the “interdimensional electromagnetic induction devices” called “coils” that extract energy. Coils are able to gather a seemingly infinite amount of energy from dimension W. Kyoma is a repo man who recovers illegal coils, and together with a mysterious girl named Mira, the two search for the truth.

Directing the anime is Kanta Kamei who previously worked on Bunny Drop and Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend. The series composer is Shotaro Suga, who was also in charge of series composition for Darker Than Black and Lagrange: The Flower of Rin-ne. In charge of character design is Tokuyuki Matsutake who has created many keyframes and character designs for such series as Ranma ½, Naruto, and Tales. Studio 3Hz ( Celestial Method ) and Orange, which oversaw CG production on Ghost in the Shell and Kantai Collection, are teaming up to produce the animation.

It has also been confirmed that the anime will be a part of the 54th Japan Comecon sci-fi convention. Series creator Yuji Iwahara and producer Yuichiro Matsuka of Studio 3Hz will be on stage Aug. 29 (Sat.) for a panel discussion on Dimension W.

Details on the broadcast schedule and cast have yet to be revealed, so even more news is on the way. Keep it here for follow-up reports.
