The fervorous sports story hugely popular as a manga and anime is coming to the stage this November. Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyu!! will be performed in three cities in Japan: Tokyo, Osaka, and Miyagi.
At this time, the first visual has been released to this stage play that caused a sensation when production was first announced. However, what is shown in the visual is the Karasuno High Volleyball Team facing away from the camera. Who are the actors playing the characters? And what do they look like? This visual increases anticipation all the more for fans. And yet, even with just seeing their backs we can sufficiently surmise that the bar has been set high for this live adaptation. Await more information to come including additional cast members.
Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyu!! is based on the popular manga Haikyu!! by Haruichi Furudate. The series depicts the passionate adolescence of high school students who play volleyball on the Karasuno High Volleyball Team, including members Shoyo Hinata and Tobio Kageyama. It was adapted into an anime in 2014, and just like the manga this became a huge hit as well. Season 2 of the anime will start this fall, for which great excitement is already building. Now the series is finally coming to the stage.
Worry Kinoshita is directing the stage play. Kinoshita’s forte is plays that make use of the actors’ physical attributes. He also produces the nonverbal theater group The Original Temp and has received five stars at the Edinburgh International Festival. Having produced international works jointly in Slovenia, South Korea, and Germany, among others, he is a creator who receives high praise overseas.
Writing the stage play is Norihito Nakayashiki, an up-and-coming playwright, producer, and actor who was a nominee for the 2013 Kishida Prize for Drama for the work Musabetsu. This talented staff is a highlight that can’t be overlooked.
