One Piece plunders Guinness World Record for most copies published of a comic book series by a single author.
Author Eiichiro Oda of the hugely popular worldwide series One Piece has set a huge record. He has been awarded a Guinness World Record for “most copies published of a comic book series by a single author.”
One Piece began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997, and a series of tankobon volumes have been published ever since. The series gained great popularity from the moment it was first published and since has amassed a bounty of records.
As of late December 2014, the series had reached 320,866,000 copies of the tankobon manga in print. Now, the series has been inducted into the Guinness World Records. Currently up through volume 77 have been published, as of April of this year, which extends its record even further. Attaining this huge record likely means big news for fans as well. With One Piece showing no signs of stopping, further developments are anticipated.
In celebration of attaining this Guinness World Record, an official One Piece app has been launched. On the app, available for iOS and Android, users can read all volumes of the manga. The manga, which are available to read for free, are in full color and one chapter is added every day at 1 p.m.. This means users can thoroughly enjoy this series that retains a Guinness World Record. The latest news on the One Piece anime and merchandise will also be distributed through the app.
