Kazuya Yoshii, Good Morning America to Perform Opening and Ending Theme Songs to “Dragon Ball Super”

The artists in charge of the theme songs to Dragon Ball Super, an all-new TV series that has created a huge buzz since production was first announced, have been revealed. The opening theme is “Chozetsu Dynamic!” by Kazuya Yoshii. The ending theme is “Hello Hello Hello” by Good Morning America.

This announcement was made on May 19 (Tues.) during “Triad Rocks - Columbia vs. Triad” held at Toyosu Pit in Tokyo. The event was held by Nippon Columbia to celebrate the renewal of Japan’s prominent rock label, Triad. It was an intense concert.

This marks the first time solo artist Kazuya Yoshii is in charge of a theme song for a TV anime. The song’s lyrics were created by Yukinojo Mori. On a different note, this will be the second consecutive song created for the series by prominent Japanese rock band Good Morning America, following up “Dear Zarathustra,” the ending theme to Dragon Ball Kai (Majin Buu Saga). In all probability, they will create yet another intense song appropriate for the series.

Each song is currently being recorded and will be released on CD in or after August. These will likely bring even more excitement to this new series in the Dragon Ball franchise whose high popular remains unwavered even after all this time, as evidenced by the movie Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ becoming a huge hit.

■ Comment from Kazuya Yoshii:
“I wanted to make a song surging with energy, a song that becomes more powerful unconsciously, a song kids murmur the words to and reflexively hum the melody to while walking home from school. I wanted to express through the song the image of Goku and his sexiness that stems from his kindness and immense power. The A melody after the introduction has the image of soaring through the sky with his family. The lyrics created by Yukinojo Mori whom I admire and respect are also super excellent! I feel like I powered up rapidly while creating this song. The recording was carried out with reliable musicians and staff in LA! They were all excellent too! Please look forward to this new song!”

■ Comment from Shingo Kanehiro, vocalist and guitarist of Good Morning America:
Dragon Ball. The last part we participated in, Kai, is the digitally remastered version of the anime I saw when I was a kid. That ending theme song was sung by Hironobu Kageyama, and while I’m glad we performed in this well-known song, on the other hand it felt a bit out of place and even now I don’t get any actual feeling from it.

“But the story this time is completely new. It’s an adventure not yet seen even in the manga. I’m so excited and looking forward to it. We’re bringing a new song to Super that will be carved into the history of Dragon Ball, so please look forward to it.”

■ Comment from Osamu Nozaki, producer at Fuji TV:
“When deciding on the theme songs for Dragon Ball Super, the first new TV anime in the Dragon Ball series in 18 years, I wanted a theme song that would become widely well received by kids and adults alike while blowing new breath into the world of Dragon Ball, so I chose Kazuya Yoshii for the opening theme. This is also the first solo anime theme song by Yoshii and his first time working with lyricist Yukinojo Mori, so I wondered about this new challenge undertaken along with the anime.

“The members of Good Morning America sang the ending theme for the start of last year’s Dragon Ball Kai. They gathered great momentum for that new series through things like joint performances with Masako Nozawa at events. I think that together we can bring excitement to Dragon Ball Super as well.

“Definitely look forward to these new theme songs along with the first new series in 18 years, Dragon Ball Super!”
