“Fairy Tail” New Movie Project Commences; New OAD Confirmed

A new movie project has begun for the popular anime Fairy Tail. This will be the second feature-length animation for the series, coming three years after 2012’s Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess. Production on this new movie was announced at the event Fairy Tail Dragon King Festival 2015 held on May 16. Details on the roadshow release schedule and staff are yet to be revealed, so there is much to be curious about.

The previous movie, Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess, became a huge topic due series creator Hiro Mashima’s full participation, which included creating the original story. Just what kind of developments await for this new movie is an area of interest.

Other new information continued to flow at the event. First up, a key visual was released of the new story arc, Tartaros arc, which begins in chapter 234 on sale May 23. The stylish illustration shows a full lineup of more than 10 characters. Production has also been confirmed on a new OAD titled Yosei-tachi no Batsu Game. The story is based on a non-serialized manga published in the August 2013 issue of Magazine Special. Fairy Tail will be heating up a variety of media from hereon, including a TV anime, OAD, and a feature-length movie.

In other news, the 50th volume of the original manga will be released on July 17. In celebration of this, 50 illustrations drawn just for the occasion by author Hiro Mashima will be made into postcards for a limited edition of the volume. This is something no fan will be able to overlook.

The original work to Fairy Tail is a battle-action manga currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine. The TV anime began broadcasting in 2009. The second season of the popular anime is currently airing, after being on hiatus for a year beginning in April 2014.
