Saint Seiya, which started in 1986, is set to celebrate its upcoming 30th anniversary in 2016 with a brand new series. Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold will begin being broadcast in spring 2015.
The official teaser site has been up since February with new information and special reports about the series. The cast list has also been released, and a trailer announces the start of a “Saint Seiya 30th Anniversary Project."
The 2014 film, Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary, was the latest of the many installments of the series. What’s different about Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold is the fact that it will be “broadcast.” No dates have been announced for a TV anime, so it will be interesting to see how the series will be released.
The official site features a large illustration of Leo Aiolia. From the title, Soul of Gold, the visuals and the trailer, it’s clear that the series is putting the spotlight on the Gold Saints.
“For the immensely popular 12 Gold Saints in particular, a new battle is about to begin…” Whatever the battle, it’s sure to be exciting!
The cast of voice actors for this new series has also been released. It includes Hideyuki Tanaka as Leo Aiolia, Yusaku Yara as Sagittarius Aiolos, and many other familiar names from the original series. Other members have yet to be announced, but judging by the current lineup, it's certain to be a rich cast of talent.
As for the staff, it will be directed by Takeshi Furuta, written by Toshimitsu Takeuchi, and Hideyuki Motohashi will be doing character design.
Takeshi Furuta has directed and done storyboarding for series like Sgt. Frog and Mobile Suit Gundam AGE, and is currently directing The Comic Artist and Assistants. Toshimitsu Takeuchi has written scripts for Sgt. Frog, Jewelpet, Haikyu!! and more. Hideyuki Motohashi is an iconic animation director who has worked on such series as Yoroshiku Mechadock, Sailor Moon, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, and many others. He’s also done character design for series such as Fushigi Yugi, and Hikaru no Go.
The site also states that a preview event is set to take place, but specifics have yet to be released. As a Saint Seiya title, it’s sure to attract a lot of attention. Check back for more updates on this new series.
